Oh, hello there! Since you're at this site, you're probably aware that Shannon and I wrote a book called "Momnesia" (and maybe you know about our first book too - "If These Boobs Could Talk").

Well, book number three is in the works and coming out in early 2011. If you've been reading the blog, you know that this next book is all about toddlers.

Preview of Coming Attractions

For the past few months, Shannon and I have been working on "The World According to Toddlers" (to be published in early 2011). If you have a toddler, you know all about the exhaustion, the absurdity, the adorableness, the drama.

This is Fashion.

Here's a good one.

The other day I was cleaning up outside and the cuff of my jeans got wet. So I rolled the cuff up.

Naturally, I instantly forgot about the cuff. And I ended up walking around all day with ONE (just one!) cuff folded way up. I went to the grocery store, to my daughter's school, etc. etc.

Only later - at the end of the day - did I realize what was going on.

Ugh.

Fast forward two days. I was outside and had to step across some wet grass. So I folded up the cuff of my pants. You know where this is going, right?

Yep: once again, I walked around all day like that.

What can I say? Maybe I'm starting a new trend. The "Momnesia Look."

So far, I don't think it's really catching on.
 

Doing the laundry

We've all done the "wash-the-clothes-and-forget-to-move-them-to-the-dryer" move. That's Momnesia 101.

Well, here's a new twist.

My friend was in the laundry routine - transferring clothes to the dryer, getting the new load ready, putting the detergent into the washer. You know the drill. Her duties done, she ran off to take care of other things.

She returned later to find... a big pile of clothes sitting in the basket next to the washing machine. Hmm. The washer was humming along, but she had forgotten to put the clothing INTO it. It's a pretty critical step to miss.

This reminded me of a time that I was busy trying to do 10 things at once. I heard the dryer beep, so I ran upstairs to take the clothes out. Lo and behold, no clothes. Nothing. For the past 30 minutes I had been drying... air. Then I heard the kitchen timer beep so I ran back downstairs to take the sauce off of simmer. I dashed over to the stove and what do you know? I had forgotten to turn the burner on. No simmering. Just cold, cold sauce.

Hot air. Cold sauce. Fun times.

But I guess that's life with momnesia, right?

Encounter in the hall

Ah, kids. You gotta love them.

When they're little, they think grown-ups can do anything. Behold the encounter that took place in the hallway of my house. I was on my way to the laundry room when my six-year-old stopped me and asked:

I was like, "What? No! Help me with these clothes!"

 

She frowned and picked up a few socks.

 

Later, I thought about her question. And I thought: How awesome would it be if we could do everything kids thought we could do?

I can tell you one thing: our encounter in the hallway would have been very, very different.

 

A shocking discovery

You know how you go along thinking it's one day... let's say Thursday... then later (much later) you realize it's actually Wednesday?

Well, I've taken that to a whole new level.

Earlier this week I was thinking about a birthday party that's coming up. I thought, "Well, the party is in April, so I have plenty of time to get a gift."

I couldn't recall the exact date of the party, so I took out my calendar.

And that's when it dawned on me: We are IN APRIL. I was thinking we were still in MARCH!

Yes, I've been writing the date down on things, and I'm writing "4" as the month. I've also been doing April-ish things like paying taxes. But for some reason, my brain was just set on "March" as the month. What the heck??

I was so taken aback, I just sat there like this for a while:

In fact, I'm still not over the shock. I'm shaking my head in disbelief as I write this.

So that's my momnesia moment for the week. What's yours?
